Anjon Athletics Fall Performance Working Groups are designed for motivated middle school players who want to develop the technical qualities, positional understanding, and decision-making needed to perform at a high level as they prepare for high school soccer.

Each weekly group brings together players from different clubs and backgrounds to improve the skills of specific positions through technical-functional training, realistic game problems, and competitive decision-making.

BACK LINE WORKING GROUP

Positions: 2 • 3 • 4 • 5

Mondays | 5:00–6:00 PM

For back line players who want to become more complete defenders and contributors in possession.

Training focus:

  • Receiving and playing under pressure
  • Defending 1 v 1 and collectively
  • Positioning and scanning
  • Building from the back
  • Breaking lines
  • Supporting possession
  • Covering teammates
  • Transition moments
  • Recognizing when to step, delay, recover, or advance

Develop the tools to defend intelligently, play confidently, and influence the game from the back.

 

MIDFIELD WORKING GROUP

Positions: 6 • 8 • 10

Wednesdays | 5:00–6:00 PM

For midfielders learning to become the connection point of the team.

Training focus:

  • Scanning before receiving
  • Body orientation
  • First-touch solutions
  • Playing under pressure
  • Turning and escaping
  • Controlling tempo
  • Finding space between lines
  • Combination play
  • Progressive passing
  • Defensive positioning
  • Recognizing when to retain, penetrate, support, or create.

FORWARD WORKING GROUP

Positions: 9 • 7 • 11

Fridays | 5:00–6:00 PM

For players who want to become more effective around goal.

Goal Keepers welcome! (limit 2 per training group)

Training focus:

  • Movement to create and attack space
  • Receiving under pressure
  • 1 v 1 attacking
  • Combination play
  • Timing runs
  • Finishing from varied situations
  • Creating separation
  • Pressing and transition behaviors
  • Making better decisions in the moments that determine goals.

Position labels do not limit players. They are environments for understanding the problems, responsibilities, and possibilities that each position presents—and developing players capable of solving them.
